shouldnt parents start being parents?

In listening to the radio broadcast on kids and internet pornography I thought some interesting ideas were thrown out there, but I kept going back to one main thought – shouldn't parents take some responsibility and start being parents? Sure you can place parental controls on your computer, or blame society for corrupting your kid's minds, but there's no substitute for a conversation with your child. Nothing can replace you sitting down with your son or daughter and telling them not only that you don't want them on those websites but why as well. Kids aren't as dumb as we sometimes think. They generally appreciate an adult being straight forward with them rather than telling them not to do something because they 'said so'.
Kids like to be treated like they're smart. I always listened to my mom when she told me to do something along with the reason why. Sometimes kids do things just because they're not supposed to. When the fun of it being 'wrong' goes away, sometimes the fun goes away too. Sure, I think there should be stricter rules governing age limits and requirements to get into these websites, but nothing can replace good 'ole parenting. I think that parents should stop thinking about who they can place the blame on next, and start thinking about how to talk to their kids about serious issues. Besides, after porn and video games, who's left to blame?

Children are going to learn from their parents, if kids start viewing pornography then parents have no one to blame but themselves. [...]
